Clamp-On Penstock Flow Measurement

In June this year Cascadia Instrumentation was involved in the temporary installation of a Ductus Transit Time Clamp-On. With the help of a factory-trained German technician/operator, the equipment was installed on a large penstock supplying water to a hydro-electric power plant.

It only took a day and a half to locate and attach the 16 transducers on the 3 m diameter pipe, connect them to the computer, provide flow measurement output and log the data. A 4 – 20 mA flow signal was sent to the plant over the next two days for their performance testing which required a wide range of flows.

Portable radio communication with the plant provided an opportunity for them to perform a wide range of flow tests.
