HydroVision Ductus Clamp-on Transit Time flowmeter

Recently Brian Higgs from Cascadia Instrumentation was at the Bighorn Hydroelectric Power Generating plant west of Rocky Mountain House Alberta where he attended the successful trial installation of a HydroVision Ductus Clamp-on Transit Time flowmeter on a 3.66 metre (12 foot) diameter penstock (pipe).

The Bighorn Hydroelectric development is one of TransAlta’s key assets in its array of power generation facilities in the province of Alberta. The development is located on the North Saskatchewan River, approximately 32 km southwest of Nordegg on the eastern flanks of the Rocky Mountains. It consists of two units with a total generating capacity of 120 MW under an operating head of 91 m (300 ft). The reservoir impounded by the Bighorn development is Lake Abraham.

The Ductus TT COHP clamp-on flow meter is a powerful but compact instrument capable of measuring flow in very large diameter pipes, incorporating the latest electronics and digital processing technologies, realizing high performance and easy operation.

With use of a high-speed micro-processor, the response time is as fast as 1s or less, housed in an IP-65 enclosure (NEMA-4x). The system is well suited to most environments.

Programming of the flow meter is simple and can be accomplished with FlowVision, a Microsoft Windows compatible configuration and signal analysis program. It provides access to an extensive range of diagnostic information. HydroVision manufactures several flow meter consoles to meet the specific requirements of various applications.
